After work, I met up with friends at Epstein’s. There was some skate video premier, so the place was bombarded by tweens with flashy sneakers, lots of skateboards and alot of bumping. The folks from DQM, Reed, and Supreme were there as well, but I digress.
After a few drills, Mark and Chris were raving about the hyped pizzeria joint that opened up on 14th - Artichoke Pizza. After a brief pause, we decided to roll.
I heard of long lines, but the line wasn’t too bad. I did learn though that anyone ordering a pie at a time is an enemy to everyone else waiting. The word is the production side of Artichoke isn’t that good, which may also be why the pizza is so damn good.
My first slice I had was the spinach/artichoke slice. The slice was huge, the pies are huge and it ran me $6 for the giant slice + 2 bottles of water. Not bad. The slice itself - was delicious. Delicious is subjective - agreed, but it had a fettucine like sauce (no tomato sauce) and it was oozing with olive oil and butter. I’d place calorie count at - at least 1000 calories/slice. They also have fried cauliflower and stuffed artichokes and plain margarita pizza (which I haven’t tried yet.)
Does it meet the hype? Yes.
Super friendly staff, greasy/cheesy delicious pizza, tasty dough (thick like brochette) and “to be” 22′oz Styrofoam cups of beer (coming soon) makes for a pretty ridiculous combination.
