I, like many, like to keep tabs on the companies I’ve worked for in the past - for all reasons really.
As discussed here it looks like the Sirius XM merger may be annouced as early as today.   The folks over at Orbitcast seem to have the inside track.

“Many believe that the DOJ will issue its announcement before the bell on Monday, mostly based on Bear Stearns’ word that the deal will be approved as soon as last Friday or today. Of course, no one knows for sure except for the DOJ itself… but what do you think? Is today the day?”  Click here for the full article.

House of Hoops

Located across the street from the legendary Apollo Theater at 268 West 125th Street Between Adam Clyton Powell and Frederick Douglas Blvd [MAP], the House of Hoops is billed as the ultimate Basketball Lifestyle retail experience. Complete with a consumer playable Half-Court (used as a wear test station to try out sneakers), a Video Game lounge, a movie lounge, and several rooms of exclusive/non-exclusive Nike Inc. product, the House of Hoops sets out to offer both amenities and products in a truly unique way. Unique in an of itself, the House of Hoops sells only the Basketball related products produced by Nike Inc., this includes product from Nike, Jordan Brand, and Converse. Each of these Brands occupies their own branded space within the House of Hoops, architecturally independent from the other. All of the products within these independent brand spaces are merchandised as visual packages with the sneakers and apparel linked through color, style, etc. For example, the Converse space features Converse footwear and Converse's WADE 3, linked to matching pieces of Converse/WADE apparel. The same holds true for the Nike College room, the Jordan Room, the LeBron/Olympic Room, and the Charles Barkley Room. Though each room's position is architecturally permanent, the merchandise within the rooms can obviously be changed out easily. Today's Barkley room may be tomorrow's Nike/Kobe room.

Of course the main draw of the House of Hoops is the location exclusives including, but not limited to, Nike Basketball Player Exclusive Special Make Ups. The Nike PEs occupy their own prominent space at the entrance of the House of Hoops with the large [PEWall].

Though many of our readers have not had the chance to visit the House of Hoops, through this KATC Video feature, we are providing a virtual tour and a glimpse into the media unveiling of the House of Hoops that took place prior to the public grand opening.

Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier II

New pics of the upcoming Nike Zoom LeBron Soldier II recently hit the Net. Billed as the King's play-off sneaker, the Soldier line was originally developed as an off-shoot of the popular LeBron 20-5-5. Now coming into its second year, the Soldier has departed from its protective, durable, and strapped roots (all of which were major selling points of the 20.5.5 and Solider 1) to a more streamlined, lightweight, and low profile sneaker. New to the Soldier series, Nike and LeBron have worked together to develop "milkcrate" technology, a technology inspired by LeBron's younger days of playing Ball with a milkcrate hoop that will be first introduced through the Soldier II. The "milkcrate" concept was first introduced through the strap of the currently available Nike Zoom LeBron V.

The Nike Zoom LeBron V is set to release during the Summer of 2008.

Reflective Safety Pack

The Nike Sub Zero collection contains three different stories: Warm, Safe and Dry. For the Safe line, Nike created the “Reflective Safety” pack of shoes, containing the Air Max 95, the Nike Vandal and the Air Foamposite One.

Laurel Mitchell, Product Line Manager for Urban footwear, walks us through the inspiration for the Air Max 95 and Nike Vandal. “On the Vandal High, we decided to put the reflectivity in the strap because we’ve never really done that before. We went with the dark army colors and the pink to give it a little shock value. We wanted to make it really urban and camo, so that’s where the color inspiration came from. The materials inspiration was just to use nice smooth leather and let the reflective strap and binding be the hero of the shoe.”

With the Jordan Retro 8 coming back strong this year in original colors, it’s easy to forget it was first re-released back in 2003. The black/chrome colorway has an elegant appearance, with the black Nubuck upper providing a stark background for the monochrome brush strokes on the heel and the chrome detailing on the straps.

Zvezdochka

Designer Marc Newson is a pioneer in the art of biomorphism, incorporating flowing lines, translucency and the absence of sharp edges. One of his most outrageous creations is the Nike Zvezdochka, a beautiful, multi-purpose shoe inspired by Newson’s time spent working at the Russian Space Institute, where he saw pictures of cosmonauts wearing socks specially designed for exercising in space.
