My buddy Q (facebook smackdown app fame) picked up the sidekick back when it had first came out - monochrome, clunky but the first to hit the mainstream with a qwerty device & always on IM. He absolutely loved it. As the hardware got better (software development moved like snails) I always loved the concept but felt execution was lacking. Maybe I wasn’t in the target market for it.

Now with the Microsoft acquisition, danger’s in a position to really hit the masses and expand it’s carrier relationships (passed tmobile) and really hit the masses. I’m excited to see how this relationship molds out for joe blow, myself and the rest of the “consumers” out there.

Danger value was a bundled deal - hardware + software + proprietary backend. With Microsoft’s hardware partners and infrastructure + scale, danger can hit the masses with little restriction.

On the flip side, Microsoft has an opportunity to start brainwashing from the tweens and up.
